There will be no voter identification cards mailed out this year if Canada Post and postal workers can’t come up with a deal by this Friday.

“We’re asking Edmontonians to reach out to your friends and neighbours and ask them how they plan to vote and if they have all the information they need,” said Elections Edmonton returning officer Aileen Giesbrecht on Wednesday, noting elections staff had literally just finished putting the cards together and were preparing to mail them out earlier in the week. “Unless the strike is resolved quickly, we will not be sending voter identification cards out.”

Giesbrecht said the city was looking towards next Friday as the hard deadline as to whether voter identification cards will be sent out or not. If so, this means more than 700,000 eligible voters w
