The man who allegedly carjacked and killed a father picking up his child from a Mid-City day care center Tuesday night was shot in the head a short time later on Interstate 10 in the stolen car, New Orleans police say.
Raymond Wells is in "extremely grave condition" at University Medical Center, according to deputy superintendent Nicholas Gernon. Wells is being watched by an armed guard. Should he recover from his injury, he will be booked into jail on a count of first-degree murder.
"It was a truly horrible scene and a horrible crime," Gernon said.
