BOARDMAN An incident at a Boardman business caused Boardman Center Intermediate School to go on lockdown Wednesday afternoon.

An alert sent to parents of students at Boardman Center Middle School states that the school was on lockdown due to a "police presence" in the area.

Boardman Police Chief Todd Werth tells 21 News the reason for the police presence was an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound at a business on Stadium Drive, which is located less than half a mile away from the school.

A representative for the school tells 21 News the lockdown happened right at dismissal time. The lockdown has been lifted and only lasted about 10 minutes.

It is unclear what led up to the incident, but Werth told 21 News there is no ongoing threat to the public.
