LAKETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The historic Felt Estate north of Saugatuck received a national preservation award, an organization dedicated to supporting the mansion announced Wednesday.

The $5,000 grant from the National Preservation Fund will go toward supporting an architectural investigation into the front portico. The investigation will identify repair and restoration needs, “ensuring safe public access and preserving the mansion’s historic entryway for future generations,” the Friends of the Felt Estate said in a release.

The grant is “both an honor and a vital first step in our ongoing restoration efforts," Friends of the Felt Estate Director Elizabeth McEwen said in a statement.
