After than serving more than 30 years as an MLB coach, Glenn Sherlock is out as the Mets’ catching instructor.
The longtime catching guru credited with transforming the Mets’ backstops into one of baseball’s best defensive units is retiring — marking the first domino to fall in what’s expected to be a wave of coaching staff changes. SNY’s Andy Martino was the first to report the news on Wednesday.
“Beloved Mets catching instructor Glenn Sherlock is retiring,” Martino reported, via X/Twitter. “It is the first of a few changes coming to the coaching staff.”
Sherlock had two separate stints with the Mets’ coaching staff. He was their third base coach under Terry Collins in 2017, remaining in that role in 2018 under Mickey Callaway before becoming the first base coach in 2019.
