COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — From TSA agents to air traffic controllers, there are more than 1,000 federal employees at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
TSA agents and air traffic controllers are considered essential federal employees. While they were still at work on the first day of the federal government shutdown, they were not receiving pay.
Things were business as usual at the airport on Wednesday, but Aaron Barker, President of AFGE Local 554, is concerned that will change if the shutdown continues.
He represents the approximately 1,200 TSA agents at the airport. He said the longer the shutdown persists, the more challenging it becomes for agents to come to work without pay.
"It creates a lot of undue stress for the workers, for the TSA officers," Barker said.
He stresse
