Fort Worth is rolling out a drone project that leaders say is the first of its kind in the world.

A network of weather sensors is being deployed to fill gaps in weather data so that drone operators and autonomous vehicles can operate more safely, even when the weather isn’t perfect.

The city is installing TruWeather Solutions’ Metro Weather Wind Guardians, which the company describes as “a Doppler lidar capable of detecting wind speed and direction up to 15 km away, and at a 10-meter vertical resolution​.”

It’s basically a mini weather station.
