WASHINGTON. (KWQC) - Thomson Prison union officials are wondering if employees will get paid during the government shutdown.
They were in Washington, D.C., to speak with lawmakers about paychecks as well as their cancelled contract with the Bureau of Prisons on Wednesday.
“We have one of the toughest jobs in the world right now,” Union president Jon Zumkehr said. “And to get attacked verbally, physically, you know, watch our back constantly and now to have to worry about not getting a paycheck is just another element to that.”
With the shutdown nearing 24 hours and uncertainty about how long it will go on, workers at federal prisons, like Thomson, could have their pay put on hold.
