Senate Democrats voted down a Republican measure to keep funding the government, putting the nation on a near-certain path to its first shutdown in nearly seven years.

The government shut down at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1.
U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell
U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) spoke about the issue before the deadline, noting he voted against the government shutdown for both President Biden’s last budget and President Trump’s.
