LEXINGTON, Ky. — The federal government is shutdown as Congress failed to agree on funding. During this time , most federal employees are furloughed, and all are not getting paid.
However, operations are continuing as normal at airports across the country. Lauren Simmerman, community relations manager at Blue Grass Airport, said travel won’t be impacted and they don’t expect any major delays, at least initially. Despite the federal government shutting down, officers with the Transportation Security Administration and Federal Aviation Administration operations are running as normal.
“Both of those groups are considered essential, so they are still working,” Simmerman said.
While TSA and FAA agents are still required to work, they won’t get paid until Congress passes the funding. Durin
