NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) -- Illinois State University launched a brand new AI learning lab, which combines two majors to predict atrial fibrillation.

"We're very excited to announce this wonderful opportunity of the NIH grant that is allowing us to establish machine learning and AI lab with a focus. Our research focus is really to examine atrial fibrillation, which is a very common arrhythmia that ultimately can lead to stroke," said Dr. Marilyn Prasun, Carle-Broman endowed professor at Mennonite College of Nursing.

The university brought together nursing and computer science students to work in tandem on this project. Nursing students focus on the medical side of the project, and computer science students focus on the AI machine learning part.
