CANTON, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A man was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing a child in 2022, according to the Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office.

The district attorney said Zachery Allan Maltman, 37, molested a child under 16 in 2021 and 2022. Maltman reportedly knew the victim and abused her for more than a year.

“This defendant showed the Court repeatedly that he is not someone who can be amongst the rest of us,” Assistant District Attorney Meaghan Frankish said in a statement. “He preyed upon a child who trusted him and looked up to him because he knew she would keep his secret. But she was finally able to disclose to someone who made her feel safe, which took a level of strength no child should have to muster.”
