FORT VALLEY, Ga. — The family of 30-year-old Devonte McMillian , who was fatally shot in Fort Valley in August 2025, protested Wednesday outside the Fort Valley Police Department demanding justice and answers.

Latisha Hicks, McMillian’s mother, said her son was a loving brother, son, and father to a 10-year-old boy living in New Jersey. Hicks said McMillian was visiting family in Fort Valley when he was killed just blocks from his childhood home.

“Trying to protest and see can somebody get... that child arrested off the street so I can have at least some comfort,” Hicks said.

Hicks said she is frustrated with the pace of the investigation because the family believes they know who killed her son.
