NEW ORLEANS — Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry announced Wednesday that New Orleans will host college football's championship game in 2028.

He made the announcement at the Caesars Superdome and pledged to make the city safer by deploying National Guard troops to work alongside the New Orleans Police Department and state police.

"We are starting to see an uptick in the violence in the city,” Landry said. “That is concerning to me as well. So, we're going to double down and make sure we put bad people behind bars."

With some of the lowest violent crime rates in decades, critics question the need to bring in the Guard.
