Israeli naval forces intercepted a Gaza-bound flotilla carrying humanitarian aid and international activists, including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, halting its latest attempt to break Israel’s blockade of the Palestinian territory.
Flotilla intercepted in international waters
The Global Sumud Flotilla confirmed that three vessels, the Alma, Sirius, and Adara, were intercepted in international waters around 70 nautical miles from Gaza. Organizers said communications with several other boats were lost after Israeli forces boarded.
Israel’s foreign ministry said on X that “several vessels of the… flotilla have been safely stopped and their passengers are being transferred to an Israeli port,” adding, “Greta and her friends are safe and healthy.”
