Israeli military personnel have intercepted an international flotilla attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, boarding multiple vessels as they approached the besieged Palestinian enclave.

Several boats reportedly defied Israeli commands to stop and continued sailing, edging closer to the blockaded territory on Thursday morning AEST.

According to activists aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, Israeli naval forces launched a pre-dawn operation involving at least 20 vessels. The flotilla reported that water cannons were being used against small boats, and one of the vessels – the Florida – was allegedly rammed deliberately at sea. Others, including the Yulara and Meteque, were targeted with high-pressure water.
