AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry is offering $3.5 million in research grants to study the effects of PFAS in agriculture .
The funding is the second round from the state’s PFAS Fund, created to help farmers manage contamination. The program supports research aimed at helping farmers maintain operations and protect food safety despite PFAS exposure.
Three million dollars has been set aside for major grants, which will fund multiple projects valued between $100,000 and $500,000 over a two-year period. The focus areas include PFAS in water, soil, and plants; PFAS in animals and animal products; and strategies for managing PFAS on farms.
