PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- Senior citizens are being hit with property taxes they can't afford, forcing them away from their forever homes and into assisted living facilities.
Gary Millen is a Peoria resident who's retired. He said he's one of the lucky ones, who can still support himself through his retirement fund.
"I visit people every day who are living in retirement communities who couldn't afford to stay in their home anymore," he said. "A lot of people can't afford to even subscribe to the newspaper."
A cost-of-living crisis has come across the board as an aftereffect of the COVID-19 pandemic according to a Bradley finance professor.
Senior citizens are some of the most vulnerable in the community. They need to spend money on things most people don't have to, like a person to mow th
