CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The Charlotte mother of a 12-year-old, who was seen being handcuffed by Charlotte police in a viral video posted to TikTok , said she’s outraged by how police handled the situation. Still, her son shouldn’t have run from officers.
Jasmine Ervin told WBTV that police arrested her son Sunday for recklessly riding a bicycle Uptown, while the boy and a group were on a “ride-out.”
The video, taken by a bystander, has been viewed more than 60,000 times on TikTok alone. It shows Ervin’s son handcuffed in the back of a squad car.
“All his innocence is just gone; that was something he didn’t have to experience, he didn’t have to go through,” Ervin said. “[CMPD] could’ve called me, they could have brought him home, they didn’t have to put him in handcuffs like that.”
