BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - There are still questions surrounding Governor Jeff Landry’s request to activate the Louisiana National Guard in several cities, including Baton Rouge. Despite that, there is a local effort to help lower crime.
The Baton Rouge Community Street Team discusses strategy every day. Their goal is to help reduce violence and crime in Baton Rouge. They are mainly focused on zip codes 70802 and 70805. They have maps to help guide them.
“It’s color-coded based on activities that have happened,” explained Program Director Sateria Tate Alexander.
She said the maps go back to 2024, but they have been tracking murders, shootings, and robberies since 2021.
