JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. — At least one person is dead in a crash after a police chase on Interstate 65 in Johnson County.

According to an INDOT alert, the crash happened around 9:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-65 near the 92-mile marker, between the Franklin and Whiteland exits.

An IMPD spokesperson confirmed officers were in pursuit of the vehicle when it crashed. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

INDOT reported the vehicle caught fire after the crash.

At 11 p.m., the southbound lanes, which had been partially closed after the crash, were reopened. The right two northbound lanes of I-65 remained closed, though the left lane had reopened.

There are no further details about the crash or why officers were pursuing the vehicle.
