The New York Yankees were on the brink of elimination when Fernando Cruz stepped up to the mound to save them. At the top of the seventh inning, the Boston Red Sox had the bases loaded and were tied 3-3. Cruz came in and delivered for his team when they needed him the most. Despite all the hate for manager Aaron Boone after losing Game 1, fans were pleased with the team’s success.
The Red Sox almost had the edge over the Yankees and could have won the game. Boone’s decision to bring in Cruz seemed to have worked well for the team. The pitcher came in with nobody out in the first and second and worked his way by retiring three of four Red Sox opponents.
