Forty samples of a controversial cough syrup, linked to the death of a child in Rajasthan’s Sikar district , failed quality tests over the past two years. Each time the syrup was blacklisted, the state’s drug control and procurement systems facilitated the continued supply of the syrup through the Rajasthan Medical Services Corporation Limited (RMSCL).

Sample failures were recorded across several areas, including Bhilwara in 2020, followed by four failures in Sikar, two in Bharatpur, seven in Ajmer, 17 in Udaipur, two each in Jaipur and Banswara, and one in Jodhpur.

Each of these failures highlight systemic issues in drug procurement and quality control under the state's free medicine scheme.

Official action was taken against Kaysons, the company that makes the syrup.
