Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha were battered by heavy to very heavy rain as the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal moved towards the coast.

In a special bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the deep depression over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal moved with a speed of 13 kmph and lay centred about 160 km south-southeast of Gopalpur in Odisha and 170 km east of Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The system was around 200 km south of Puri in Odisha), 250 km east-northeast of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and 280 km south-southwest of Paradip in Odisha.

It is very likely to continue to move north-north-westwards and cross Odisha and adjoining Andhra Pradesh coasts between Gopalpur and Paradip by night of October 2.
