Zak Yassine dove and missed the football after a high snap over a Mississippi Valley State quarterback caused temporary chaos.

The Southern defensive tackle didn’t lie on the turf and assume a teammate would get it. His eyes remained glued to the erratically bouncing ball that slipped through six players. Yassine successfully swooped in for the fumble recovery on the opposing 4-yard line.

The play in that 34-29 win over MVSU is illustrative of Yassine’s football career.

A career defined by not giving up. A career in which he made the switch from offense to defense late in high school, became a walk-on at Lamar and is now a consistent starter on Southern’s defensive line.
