ASHEBORO, N.C. — The North Carolina Zoo has responded to the death of Dr. Jane Goodall.

Goodall, 91, was an environmental advocate known for her chimpanzee research.

She had made several visits to the North Carolina Zoo in the 1980s, the zoo said. They recently named a baby chimp to honor Goodall.

"We are heartbroken to hear the news of Dr. Jane Goodall’s passing at 91 years old. She dedicated her entire life advocating for chimpanzees and wildlife all across the globe. She was an extraordinary advocate for wildlife conservation.
