It’s a good thing I paid attention the last three years while I was co-hosting MLive’s annual “Guide to Medicare and Golden Retirement” webinar.
In July, I turned 65. Suddenly, I had decisions to make — Medicare has rules about what you must do to stay eligible once you turn 65.
Typically, you need to sign up for Medicare Part A and/or Part B in a seven-month window – three months before, the month of and then the three months after your 65th birthday.
But not so fast for me, because I’m still working, on my company’s health-care plan and am making contributions to a Health Savings Account. Since HSA contributions make you ineligible for Medicare, I need to wait.
Confusing? Well, it’s only the tip of the iceberg.
This is why MLive’s online Medicare webinar, planned for 4:30 to 6 p.m.
