An Indianapolis police vehicle pursuit turned deadly when the pickup truck being chased went airborne and caught on fire.

About 9 p.m. Oct. 1, an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department homicide detective attempted a traffic stop on a known "aggravated assault suspect" driving a pickup near East 21st Street and North Emerson Avenue on the city's east side, according to police.

The driver did not stop and led officers on a "lengthy vehicle pursuit" south toward Franklin before turning around and heading northbound on I-65.
