ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - City council leaders are expected to give an update on the redevelopment plans for the long-dormant Science Center this morning at their meeting.
The nonprofit St Pete for STEAM plans to transform the property into a high-tech learning hub, with more than $9 million in state funding already secured for the project.
City council members and residents are celebrating the move, saying it will bring opportunities for kids and breathe new life into this landmark that's been closed since 2014.
"This is a giant win for the City of St. Pete,” said Jungle Terrace civic association president John Hoke.
City officials had considered using the science center, which sits right next to the northwest water reclamation facility, to expand stormwater and wastewater infrastructure
