As anticipated, flight disruptions were tame on the first day of the government shutdown . However, the longer the shutdown lasts, the higher the chances of flight disruptions occurring. The Airlines of America group, representing major U.S. carriers such as American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and Southwest, has already issued a warning over the funding pause.

The group said, "When federal employees who manage air traffic, inspect aircraft and secure our nation’s aviation system are furloughed or working without pay, the entire industry and millions of Americans feel the strain."

That particular strain can lead to added delays and cancellations. Especially with busy travel months ahead, complications may arise for passengers across the United States.
