Walmart announced it would remove synthetic dyes, artificial sweeteners and preservatives from the company's own brand names, including Great Value.

On Oct. 1, Walmart said the company wanted to achieve a "more transparent food system," while aiming to meet demand from vocal customers

"By eliminating synthetic dyes and other ingredients, we’re reinforcing our promise to deliver affordable food that families can feel good about," said Walmart U.S. President and CEO John Furner.

Among the removed ingredients were 11 synthetic dyes and 30 other ingredients. Dyes removed included well-studied names like Red 40 .
