JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Johnson City leaders marked the completion of the years-long effort to transform the West Walnut Street corridor on Thursday.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday. News Channel 11 will stream the event on WJHL.com.
The city began a massive overhaul of West Walnut Street, connecting East Tennessee State University to downtown Johnson City, in late 2021.
The project presented multiple challenges over the years as crews discovered new obstacles and worked to create a new bike and pedestrian-friendly corridor.
