Three teenagers met Monday evening behind some apartments on Sacramento Drive when an argument broke out.

Then the gunshots began.

Two teens, 19 and 17, were hit with bullets. The 19-year-old, Kyree Staton of Norfolk, was pronounced dead at the scene , with the 17-year-old wounded.

The third man was brought in for questioning, but no charges have so far been filed.

“They were here for some nefarious purpose,” Police Chief Jimmie Wideman said near the crime scene, just south of Langley Air Force Base. “Don’t know exactly what that was, but narcotics seem to be the root of it.”

The double shooting was merely the latest in a slew of shootings and stabbings in Hampton over the past month.
