Required side and rear setbacks at a home on North Cherry can be reduced for a building addition, the Mesa Board of Adjustment decided recently.

The board voted 5-0 Sept. 3 as part of a consent agenda with other items to approve a minor modification to an existing planned-area development overlay. It allows the reduction to the required setbacks and an increase to the maximum lot and building coverage on 0.12 acres at 1025 N. Cherry. Board members Heath Reed and Troy Glover were absent.

The existing home is 2,639 square feet and there is a proposed 215-square-foot addition in the southeast corner of the lot, Staff Planner Emily Johnson said during a study session prior to the meeting.
