ALBEMARLE, N.C. — A 19-year-old is facing two charges after a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in Albemarle early Wednesday morning, according to police.
Albemarle Police responded to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian at the intersection of NC Highway 24/27 and Henson Street at around 2:11 a.m.
Officers found the pedestrian critically injured at the scene. The victim was taken to Atrium Health Stanly, where they were pronounced dead.
The driver, identified as Alston Paul Burr, fled the scene, police said. Officers later found Burr at his home and took him into custody.
Burr is charged with driving while impaired and felony hit and run resulting in death, according to Albemarle Police.
Officials will release the identity of the victim once the next of kin is notified.
A
