AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - In this segment of Under the Weather, Kevin Selle tells us about a record-breaking bolt of lightning that traveled a long way.

We’ve all heard of a “bolt from the blue” which is a bolt of lightning that travels some distance from the parent thunderstorm.

“There has been a shocking development in weather research, a new record long lightning flash,” said Selle.

“I’m kind of like Nick Fury of the Avengers. I get the best superstar scientists around the world,” said Dr. Randy Cerveny with Arizona State University.

Cerveny studies extreme weather and leads a team of weather superheroes that discovered the new lightning record.
