PEORIA, Ill. – Chapters of the American Civil Liberties Union in Peoria and Illinois are calling for an independent investigation into police actions after a shooting early Sunday morning.

In the aftermath of the shooting that injured a 24-year-old male, a group of more than 50 people reportedly impeded emergency personnel from rendering aid to the victim.

25 News reports the ACLU chapters question actions shown in widely circulated videos of alleged use of force, including kneeling on someone’s back or neck. The chapters also question if state laws and protocols for de-escalation were followed.
