WASHINGTON (WCAX) - The Trump administration is canceling nearly $8 billion in funding for climate-related projects .

All but two of the 16 states targeted-- Vermont and New Hampshire-- have Democratic governors.

Russ Vought, the head of the Office of Management and Budget, made the announcement on social media, calling the money “green scam funding” that fuels the left’s climate agenda.

The Associated Press reported that the energy cuts are likely to affect battery plants, major hydrogen technology projects, upgrades to the electric grid and carbon capture efforts, according to the environmental nonprofit Natural Resources Defense Council.

Vermont officials say BETA Technologies and the University of Vermont are among the institutions losing federal funding.
