ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Firefighters are looking into what caused a fire north of Walker that left a man in critical condition.

The fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday at a mobile home in the Alpine Meadows community in the area of Fruit Ridge Avenue and 4 Mile Road in Alpine Township.

A neighbor said he saw fire and smoke and called 911. He said he tried to get to get the man house of the house before firefighters arrived, but the smoke was too thick and he had to turn back.

Firefighters pulled the unresponsive man from the home and he was rushed to the hospital. The Alpine Township Fire Department says the man suffered cardiac arrest due to smoke inhalation and remained in critical condition Thursday.
