A 29-year-old man from Hinton is facing charges after a deadly altercation at a Royal Canadian Legion in Jasper last week.

Just before 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, Jasper RCMP responded to an incident at the Jasper Legion. Upon arrival officers located a man on the ground needing medical attention, police said in a Thursday news release.

Emergency crews tended to the man, but he died on scene. Moments later a man was taken into custody and the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation.

Police said an autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Calgary determined the death of Douglas Gunville, 56, of Valemount, B.C. was homicide.
