ALLEN PARK -- Vic Fangio made headlines earlier this week when he said the new kicking ball procedures in the NFL have “drastically changed” field goals.

Before this year, teams were allowed to break in kicking balls in the hour before a game started. This year, teams were given all 60 kicking balls at the start of the year, giving them more time to be ready to roll for action ahead of time.

The new rule passed at NFL owners meetings during the offseason, permitting teams to prepare kicking footballs -- known as “K-Balls” -- before game day, instead of on game day.

Fangio, the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator, gave his unprompted take on the situation during his weekly press conference on Tuesday.
