The Okanagan Granfondo is no more.
After more than a decade of bringing cyclists from across the globe to the South Okanagan, event organizers have announced the discontinuation of the race.
Jodi Cross, executive director of the event, said in a statement on Oct. 2, that "it is clear it is now time to step back, reflect on the last 14 years and plan for new opportunities in the sport , leisure and endurance arena."
More than 25,000 cyclists have come to Penticton for the event since its inception in 2011. Athletes would typically start in the Peach City before pedalling down local highways and roads through other nearby communities, including Oliver, Okanagan Falls, and Kaleden.
