LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

An 89-year-old woman nearly lost her home in a quitclaim deed scam.

Now, the man accused of trying to sell the home that wasn't rightfully his is facing charges.

According to court documents, Russell Cheatham Jr., of Scottsburg, Indiana, used a woman's personal information to get a hold of her deed.

His case memo says the victim had been living in a nursing home for three years, funded by Medicaid. When the family was told she couldn't stay at the home anymore due to Medicaid cuts, they discovered that someone had provided fraudulent paperwork via a deed transfer for her home in the Parkland neighborhood.

The deed said the victim had sold her home to Cheatham back in June for around $46,000.
