About 67 cats and kittens were rescued from a Bucks County shelter earlier this week.
According to a Facebook post from the Bucks County SPCA, the conditions at the nonprofit Cats Bridge to Rescue in Bensalem, which opened in 2009, were “awful.”
“Some cats were confined in filthy cages, others were free roaming. The large room was filled with trash and animal waste and was smelled strongly of urine,” the post said. “Flies and fleas were visible throughout the facility. Sadly, many of the cats are in very poor condition.”
Police and animal control officials served a warrant to the owner of the shelter on Wednesday morning and the SPCA then removed the cats.
Unfortunately, two kittens that were rescued died due to a highly contagious virus they had contracted.
