A punctured gas line outside a Perris home Thursday prompted a swift response by firefighters, who secured the line, staving off evacuations and street closures.

The rupture was reported just after 10 a.m. Thursday on Tahoe Street, near Redlands Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said several engine crews were sent to the location and discovered the damaged main, posing a public safety hazard.

Firefighters were able to shut off the gas before evacuations or shelter-in-place and street closures were ordered, according to reports from the scene.

Technicians from SoCal Gas were summoned and were expected to make repairs by early Thursday afternoon.

There was no word on what caused the leak.
