The federal government shutdown that began this week has brought civil litigation in Georgia’s federal courts to a standstill, including the ongoing Frost Ponzi case that originated in Coweta County.
Chief U.S. District Judge Leigh Martin May issued an administrative order Wednesday pausing all civil cases in the Northern District of Georgia that involve the U.S., its agencies or federal employees represented by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The Frost litigation, like others, will be delayed until Congress restores government funding. Once appropriations resume, deadlines will automatically extend by the length of the shutdown plus three days.
