BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — A second fox has tested positive for rabies in north Bexar County within a week, according to the Bexar County Public Health Department. The latest case comes just one day after another fox tested positive for the disease in the same area.

This brings the county’s total to 16 confirmed rabies cases so far this year.

The infected fox was located in the 27000 block of Mark Wayne Drive. Officials say a homeowner reported the animal to Bexar County Animal Control after their pet came into contact with it.

According to officials, the pet was up to date on its rabies vaccination and the owner has taken appropriate steps in coordination with their veterinarian.

Residents are urged to avoid any contact with wild or unknown animals to prevent exposure to the deadly viru
