On Thursday, The Thompson Valley Rotary Club donated $2,000 in winter coats to kids in need in the Thompson School District.
The club donated the coats through the district’s McKinney-Vento program, which is a federal law that supports children who are experiencing housing instability or are in transition with their housing, said Erica Wooldridge, Thompson School District McKinney-Vento liaison.
“Coats were important just because of the expense … especially winter coats,” she said. “If we can alleviate any sort of financial cost and ensure kids feel warm when going to school — if they’re walking to school — making sure they have something warm.”
The club has donated coats to the district for three years, said member Rodger Bailey during the meeting at Verboten Brewing and Barrel Project
