The Prime Minister has hailed the heroes of the Manchester synagogue terror attack , saying their bravery 'prevented an even greater tragedy'.

Sie Keir Starmer gave a statement from Downing Street where he saluted emergency services and security saying their actions prevented further bloodshed. Witnesses say Rabbi Daniel Walker barricaded the door to Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue, in Crumpsall during the attack this morning, which took place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish Calendar.

Two people were killed and the suspect shot dead by armed police at about 9.30am. Four other people are in a serious condition.

They are believed to include a synagogue security guard. Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident
