A witness said an East Hills man had been driving “well over 100 mph” along the Parkway East early March 31 before he rear-ended a line of stopped cars at the Squirrel Hill Tunnel, killing one man and closing down the interstate for several hours.

Donald Isaiah Lewis II, 28, is charged with homicide by vehicle, accused of causing the crash earlier this year that killed 47-year-old Landon Ray.

Ray was last in a line of several cars stopped at a red light waiting to enter the tunnels on the inbound side of the Parkway when Mr. Lewis crashed into the rear of his Honda Civic, causing a chain reaction. Ray was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead a short time after the 2 a.m. crash.
